CSI Practice Session:
An Assist with Design-Assist

CSI Learning Level:

Basic

Intended Audience:

Primary: Specifiers
Secondary: Construction Project Team Members

Speakers:

David Stutzman and Louis Medcalf

Course Description:

Completing design projects is becoming increasingly complex. Architects, especially, have relied on contractors to assume responsibility for delegated design. More recently architects are working with contractors and their subcontractors to provide design assist services, for curtain wall and other building enclosures. Join Brian Perlberg, Executive Director & Sr. Counsel for ConsensusDocs, along with Louis and Dave to introduce the newly released ConsensusDocs 541 Addendum to Agreements Between Owner and Construction Manager and Between Owner and Design Professional for Design-Assist Service. This is the first standard contact document available to address this shift in developing design services collaboratively.

Although having studied design, his passions are the technical and building science aspects of construction. Stutzman was responsible for developing and maintaining SPECTEXT, a commercial master specification system, including the ease of use editing tools for more than 13 years. Today David is responsible for managing nine staff members in three offices producing more than 150 project specifications annually for domestic and international projects.
